At Camp 4-2-11, we understand that children develop at different rates and that school year groups provide the best framework for age-appropriate activities. That’s why we’ve organised our camps to perfectly synchronise with the academic school year, ensuring your child is grouped with their classroom friends.
We use 1st September 2025 as our reference date to determine each child’s school year, exactly as schools do. This means we look at how old your child will be on this date to place them in the correct group.
School Year Age Ranges
Here’s how ages map to school years based on your child’s age on 1st September 2025:

Our Camp Groups:
We’ve organised our camps into four main categories that align with key developmental stages. Each camp will have either two (Early Explorers and Junior+) or three (Early Years, Infants and Junior+) groups depending on the venues size and facilities.
Early Years
Pre-school to Reception (Ages 3-5) Perfect for our youngest campers who are just beginning their educational journey. Activities focus on play-based learning, creativity, and building social skills.
Early Explorers
Pre-school to Year 2 (Ages 3-7) A broader age range for mixed activities that allow younger children to learn from slightly older peers while maintaining age-appropriate supervision.
Infants
Year 1 to Year 2 (Ages 5-7) Designed specifically for infant school children, with activities that complement their school curriculum and developmental stage.
Junior+
Year 3 to Year 9 (Ages 7-14) Our most comprehensive programme for junior and early secondary school children, offering more challenging activities and greater independence.
Why School Year Grouping Works Better
1. Familiar Faces
Your child will likely be grouped with children they know from school, making it easier to form friendships and feel comfortable.
2. Appropriate Development Levels
Children in the same school year are at similar developmental stages, regardless of whether they’re among the oldest or youngest in their year.
3. Matched Activities
We can tailor activities to complement what children are learning in school, reinforcing skills and concepts in a fun, informal setting.
4. Social Confidence
Being with peers from the same school year helps children feel more confident and reduces anxiety about being too young or too old for activities.
What This Means for Your Booking
When you register your child for camp:
- We automatically calculate their school year based on their date of birth
- You’ll see which camps are available for your child’s age group
- You can book with confidence knowing your child will be with appropriate peers
We understand that every child is unique. If you have concerns about your child’s placement or special circumstances to consider, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re happy to discuss individual needs and ensure every child has the best possible camp experience.
Note: School year calculations are based on the UK education system where the academic year runs from September to July.
